Kindergarten Update 10/1-10/5

Hi Kindergarten Families! Thank you to all the drivers and chaperones who made it to our Live Earth Farms field trip!  The class had a blast! Words of the Week: "and", "it" Next week, we will begin our unit on "Pumpkins".  We will discuss the life cycle of pumpkins and compare/contrast apples and pumpkins.  We will make a neat art project based around the life cycle of pumpkins which will be displayed in our classroom. In Math, the students will be introduced to "counting collections" and a new strategy, "number bonds". We will continue to work on building numbers to 10.  We will also practice counting to 100 by 5's and 10's.   In Writer's Workshop, we will discuss how stories have a beginning, middle, and end.  We briefly went over this last Friday and the students will continue their writing next week! In Social Studies, we will continue our study on our brains.  We've been discussing ways to be

Kindergarten Update 9/24-9/28

Hi Families! Here is what’s going on in Kindergarten next week: Our first field trip is this next Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2018.  Please make sure you have a booster seat with your name and leave it in front of the class.  Also, students need a sack lunch and sweatshirt because it can be cold at Live Earth Farms.  Also, we will be leaving at 8:15 am.  So, please be here on time.  Thanks!  If you signed up to drive and are clear through the district, please plan on driving.  One of the other Kindergarten classes may need us to drive some of the students, so please be prepared to have a full load.  If their class gets enough drivers over the weekend,  we may need to double up in cars (since we have more than enough drivers if we are just driving the students from our class). Art/Science/Theme: We will finish up our unit on "Apples" with a fun lesson about Johnny Appleseed. Students will be making a seasonal apple tree project.  These are one of our favorite apple projects.  To

Dear Kindergarten Families, Movie Night is tonight at Rio del Mar!  The movie will start around 7:15.  Get there early to get your spot! Drive for Schools is a big fundraiser for our school.  All proceeds go directly to our school for school supplies, professional development (like Writer's Workshop and Reader's Workshop), Scholastic News magazine that we use monthly (students love it!), and much more.  If we all sell the packet o tickets that will go home on Monday, we will reach our school-wide goal.  The class that sells the most gets a pizza party and the family that sells the most gets tickets to Universal Studios.  Hopefully we can reach our goal of $20,000.  Here is what’s going on in Kindergarten next week: We are excited to have parent volunteers begin assisting in the classroom! Don’t forget to check in at the office to get a visitor sticker before coming to the classroom at 7:55.  Art/Science/Math:   Students will be using apples to practice the

New Theme: Apples! Throughout this theme, students will learn about graphing, measuring, sorting/patterning, colors, and the life cycle of an apple. We have sent out an apple to decorate, we put the date due as of Wednesday, Sept 12 th . Kindergarten Update September 3rd

Dear Kindergarten Families, Here is what's going on in Kindergarten next week: Language Arts: We will introduce the new Words of the Week: “like, my”.  Word Wall Words are words that must be memorized and cannot be sounded out (also known as “sight words”).  It would be helpful for your child to create their own Word Wall at home (or just use flashcards) to help your child read, memorize and write these words daily until they have been mastered. Next week, we will read 'Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?’ and students will identify all of the “see” words in the book.  Also, students will choose a classmate’s name and write “I see _______ (name of that classmate). Handwriting Focus Letters:   M,m, N,n, Rr. These letters are a combination of “straight line letters”, like we focused on last week, combined with what we call “Rainbow Letters” which are the lowercase letters (h,m,n,r) that curve in a rainbow shape.  Some students still need to practice writing their na
